We use less plastic in our shashlik packaging

The new shashlik packaging line has allowed us to eliminate the use of plastic buckets and gradually introduce new, more environmentally friendly packaging that ensures a longer shelf life for our products.

“To reduce our company’s environmental impact, we now package all meat products in soft packaging, completely discontinuing the use of plastic buckets for shashlik. This step has reduced the volume of shashlik packaging by up to four times, thereby also decreasing the CO2 emissions generated during product transportation,” explains Simmo Kruustük, Chairman of the Board at Nõo Meat Factory.

He emphasizes that meat processing companies, as significant representatives of the food production sector, must increasingly take responsibility for reducing environmental impact. This has been one of the guiding principles for Nõo Meat Factory as it has been considering production development for years. “While our production volume has increased by 100% over the past ten years, the packaging volume has only grown by 48%,” Kruustük explains.

A smaller packaging volume means less plastic and other packaging materials, which in turn reduces waste. It also means a smaller carbon footprint in the production and transportation of packaging. “Moreover, such measures help reduce production costs, thereby increasing the company’s efficiency,” he added. Kruustük stressed that consumers are increasingly choosing more sustainably packaged products each year.
