ABOUT COMPANY

Nõo Meat Factory is the largest and most innovative locally-owned meat industry in Estonia, providing employment to nearly 250 people. This makes us one of the most significant employers and contributors to the local community in South Estonia. Our range includes tasty, high-quality meat products with a high meat content, packaged in convenient small packages. Nõo products are always made from fresh chilled raw materials right here in Estonia, near Tartu.

Nõo Meat Factory was founded in 1992 in the facilities of Nõo Collective Farm’s sausage factory. The first product was the legendary Nõo roulade, which we used to produce 100 kilos per day. By now, Nõo’s portfolio includes over 600 meat products: raw meat, minced meat products, hot dogs and sausages, hams and roulades, pâtés, snacks, various seasonal products and much more. Various surveys show that Nõo products are well-known and loved among Estonians. We also supply our meat products to catering companies. Nõo also takes care of our neighbouring countries’ dining tables by exporting our products to countries such as Latvia and Lithuania.

Nõo Meat Factory is a staunch advocate for high quality in the domestic food industry, and among other things, envisioned how smoked sausage could become an international success story for Estonian food.

Nõo Meat Factory received the title of Family Business of the Year at the Estonian Best Companies competition organized by EAS, the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Estonian Employers’ Confederation. Therefore, Nõo is an important employer while at the same time adhering to the high values and standards typical of a family business.

Cooking together brings families, friends, and companions together. It’s something that has been forgotten in today’s fast-paced world, but it holds a very important place in our lives. Delicious food fuels shared moments, and NÕO brings people together.

That’s why we create products that are good for us and taste food. They always come with peace of mind because we also create them for our children. We use as many natural seasonings and ingredients as possible in our recipes and products. It’s also important to note that none of our products contain the flavour enhancer E621. We adhere to the ethics of the food industry and stand for the idea that healthy food must be of high quality, honest, and valuable.

PRODUCTION AND EMPLOYEES

Nõo Meat Factory was founded in 1992 by Toomas Kruustük, who can be considered a people person, making every colleague, partner and customer feel welcome and valued. Today, Toomas’ legacy is carried on as a family business, both in the literal sense (Family Business of the Year 2021) and in a broader sense, as the people behind Nõo products form a united team. Therefore, shared moments, the community and the region where the finest meat products are created are important to Nõo.

HISTORY OF NÕO MEAT FACTORY

ESTABLISHMENT
Nõo Meat Factory was founded on May 25, 1992 in the premises of the sausage workshop of the former Nõo collective farm. The first production was completed on August 1, 1992, and 100 kilos of Nõo roulade were produced daily. Soon the first store was opened in Tartu market.

PRODUCTION AREA DEVELOPMENT
The company constantly improved its production facilities. From January 1994 to July 1995, nearly 40% of the production was taken to Russia, which made it necessary to expand the production area - a new product storage and distribution room was built.

ÄKSI SLAUGHTERHOUSE
The first slaughterhouse was opened in Äksi, which allowed us to use our own raw material for meat products.

BIRTH OF “MEAT PRINCE”
On December 1, 1999, a new trademark “Lihavürst” was introduced, according to which Nõo is still known and valued.

NEW PRODUCTION BUILDING
The era of Nõo Lihavürsti led to major changes in technology and a significant increase in production volumes. In September 2002, Nõo Meat Factory opened a new 1,000 square meter production building, and together with the old part, the production area grew to 2,200 square meters. The total cost of the investment was 45 million kroons. A new packaging line was acquired for the meat production, costing 12 million kroons, which belongs to the top technology in the world and was initially the only one in Estonia. However, 10 million kroons were invested in the purchase of new smokehouses and the only chamber for making raw salami in Estonia. Completion of the new production building gave the opportunity to increase the volume of production by half.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
The five products of Nõo Meat Factory – Nõo roulade, Nõo boiled sausages, Keelevorst, Timmu roulade, Vienna pocket – were judged worthy of the Estonian Taste Label by Estonian food experts.

ESTONIAN MEAT PROCESSORS ASSOCIATION
The Estonian Meat Processors Association (ELA) was established, which also includes Nõo Meat Factory.

LATVIAN EXPORTS
For the first time, the company’s annual turnover increased by more than 100 million kroons. Exports to Latvia started.

CONSTRUCTION
The extension of the Nõo Meat Factory was completed, which made the production building more than twice as large - 3017 m² was added to the current 2400 m². In connection with this, the product portfolio of Nõo Meat Industry expanded - thanks to the new technology, smoked sausages, salamis and snacks, which have become a favorite of many meat eaters, were added to the assortment.

LITHUANIAN EXPORTS
The company started exporting to Lithuania. Exports to Latvia account for 15% of total turnover.

NEW PRODUCTION FACILITY
High demand once again led to a lack of space, so a new house was built in a very short time. This gave an opportunity to further increase the volume of production of smoked sausages and snacks. The company was awarded a food safety management system certificate according to the ISO 22000:2005 standard.

Construction of a new, third-phase production building began, which cost 5 million euros.
